Make Your Voice Heard on City Charter Revision

New York City's Charter Revision Commission is concluding its first round of public hearings. The last major Charter revision was in 1989 and took three years.  Now the Charter Revision process is being rushed through with minimal review or community input.

The City Charter is about more than term limits. There are several provisions in the current Charter that have a direct impact on New York's working families. The reach of New York City’s Charter goes much farther than that and also speak to important issues such as the city’s land use policy, role of community boards, and the duties of the Borough Presidents, the Comptroller, and Public Advocate.

If the Commission intends to place amendments to the Charter on this fall's ballot, it must submit the amendments by the beginning of September, leaving less than five months for deliberation and advocacy.  These issues are far too important to be rushed through.
