Urban Agenda letter to the AM-NY Editor on the Affordable Housing Crisis in New York City

HOUSING JUSTICE

The goal of our Housing Justice Campaign is to maximize New York City's investment in affordable housing construction. To this end, Urban Agenda highlights examples of innovative "high road" developers – those who incorporate environmentally friendly materials and design and ensure safe working conditions and living wages and benefits for construction workers.

We also identify "low road" affordable housing contractors who misuse taxpayer dollars by doing shoddy work and using inferior materials, and by breaking wage and hour, health and safety, and labor standard laws.

Changing New York City’s approach to affordable housing construction will raise industry standards. This will ensure safer and better working conditions for construction workers, while producing durable, healthy, and energy- and water-efficient homes.
