Program

NYC Apollo Program

NYC Apollo will advance the Ten Point Plan through research, public policy, development, organizing, communications, and education.

Research

NYC Apollo's research is design to inform action. It is the product resulting from the collection, evaluation, analysis, integration, and interpretation of all available information that is immediately or potentially significant. It supports the construction or retrofitting of high performance infrastructures; creation of a green manufacturing sector; and the promotion of alternative energies and technologies. Our research also maps the respective capital investment strategies used to fuel the high performance building market.

Public Policy

NYC Apollo supports City Council legislation that seeks to make New York City a healthy and high performance city. An example is our support for Local Law 86 that codified green building standards for certain city own capital projects.

NYC Apollo develops local legislative guides, and works with the NYS and national Apollo Alliances on state and federal legislation that advances alternative energies, high performance construction, and create green collar jobs.

Organizing

The NYC Apollo is a broad coalition of organizations. It is comprised of and outreaches to labor unions, environmental groups, businesses, educators, and others. The NYC Apollo organizes campaigns around green affordable housing, retrofitting city owned buildings, and the construction and retrofitting of high performance schools. The Apollo host forums and educational sessions for local businesses, tenant associations, I community-based service agencies, and other organizations. These organizing campaigns explore ways of promoting energy efficiency, reduce operating expenses, and change behavior toward the environment. The Apollo works to create an all inclusive movement to "green" New York City.

Communications

The flip side of organizing is communications. The messages of environmental justice, ecological sustainability, and economic development are found in all NYC Apollo communications with the public. Whether it is through the media, forums, public presentations, or phone banks--the NYC Apollo is constantly providing the public with the latest information on the sustainability movement and its challenges at any given moment.

Education

The NYC Apollo conducted trainings and provided information that enhanced the conservation skills available to organizations like the Building Trades Council, Local 32bj of SEIU, the Environmental Business Association, Local 94 of the Operating Engineers, and the City University of New York. These educational programs are instrumental to the provision of skilled labor required by energy efficient technologies.
